I am humbled by reading this man's biography. You can see the wisdom and strength in his smile. I can only hope the news media descending on this man's family can have the empathy to see how much he loved and cared for his community. Some people don't know how hard it is, has been, and still is to be be poor and need to bury a loved one. I am a preacher's daughter, youngest of six, who grew up in a steel town in Pennsylvania that went hard like Detroit did. My father, who's now 84 with dementia, performed funerals for anyone, and everybody helped out as they could with money, food, emotional support for the living. I just wanted to reach out here and say thank you, Rev. Cantrell, for being a great man.

It's so upsetting to see, how his family tarnished his legacy. He wanted something beautiful, but instead his family turned it into something very, very, very UGLY. How he must be turning in his grave, with such disappointment that HIS name is has been ruined by the ones he once called family. You guys did not do him justice. Let's at least hope that he isn't really rotting in his own basement.
THE SHAME, THE SHAME & THE HORROR.

My condolences to the entire Cantrell family for the passing of Mr. Raymond E. Cantrell. I was looking on this website for someone that I know who passed just last week and saw Mr. Cantrell's memorial page. My family has buried four loved ones through the Cantrell funeral home on Mack Ave between 1999-2007 and we have never been disappointed with their services and professionalism. I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss and pray that God has and will continue to comfort you. He was a well respected kind business man who offered Detroiters a classy and elegant way to bury their deceased. For that I just want to say Thank You!
God's love from my family to yours!

Me Cantrell buried 99.9% of my family members. I always remember hearing him say, 'We all have to pass this way someday'. He was long time friend, confidant and business neighbor to my father Frank Hood, Jr. of Hood's Tire Service.s
My condolences to the Cantrell family. May God bless you and hold you in his loving arms at this time of your sorrowful need.
