Mrs. Johnnie Galloway Obituary

Johnnie Mae Galloway was born on January 6, 1930 to Sarah (Mama Sa) and John (Papa John) Currie in Memphis Tennessee.

As a teenager Johnnie Mae moved to Detroit, MI in 1944. In 1947 she graduated from Northern High School, also in Detroit, MI. She and her future husband met at a dance at Chene Street and Mack Ave and soon after they began talking and then dating. Johnnie Mae married Donald Galloway on May 14, 1949 Detroit, MI in the home of her mother Sarah, with family and friends present. They stayed together as a married couple for 63 years. Along the way they worked hard and raised a family, learned about the creator Jehovah and served him together.

After becoming a grandmother, Johnnie Mae became forever known as “Mama Mae” to her Grandchildren and congregation.

Along the way there were other milestones. Johnnie Mae was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in January 1974 at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Grand River, Detroit, Michigan. She retired from the City of Detroit, Water Department in 1989 and celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary May 14, 1999

Johnnie Mae enjoyed deep personal study of God’s Word. She gave wise advice to younger women  “... advise the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sound in mind, chaste, working at home, good, subjecting themselves to their own husbands …” Titus 2:3, 4, 5.
