Dwayne Lamont Thurmond, Sr. Obituary

Dwayne Lamont Thurmond Sr., 55, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born on September 18, 1970, Dwayne was a loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends, and he blessed everyone around him with his humor, his over-the-top personality, and his unwavering loyalty. He held a deep love and loyalty for his mother that never wavered.

Dwayne had a deep love for his city of Detroit, and he cherished his work family at the United States Postal Service, where he proudly served as Assistant Craft Director for the MVS Craft of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU). The bonds he built there meant as much to him as the work itself, and he will be remembered for the joy, laughter, and warmth he brought into every room he entered.

He was also devoted to his beloved dog, Fathead, his loyal companion who was always by his side.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Thurmond, and his grandfather, John C. Thurmond.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory:

His life partner, Darlene Cannon

His brother, Tyrone Thurmond

His sister, Angelia Thurmond-Spicer (Mario)

His children, Dwayne Thurmond Jr. (Melanie), Seeara Lane, Duranda Thurmond, Darez Thurmond, and Nathaniel McClain

His grandchildren, Sincere Mays, E'mani Briggs, Jada Thurmond, and Jalayna Thurmond, along with the children of Nathaniel McClain

Dwayne also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends whose lives he touched with his generous heart. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Dwayne. Your laughter and love will live on in all of us.
