Celia Rogers

Celia Ray Rogers was born in Fairfield, AL to the marriage and union of Will Ray and Lillian McVey on September 2nd, 1920.

She married the love of her life Alonzo Rogers on September 26, 1936. To this union there were seven children; Walter Leon, Lenetta, Will, Frederick, Halbert, Deborah Lavelle, and Susan Elaine.

She was educated in the Alabama school system prior to moving to Columbus, OH in 1946 with their first 3 children. One year later she and Alonzo relocated to Detroit in 1947.

When the children were older Celia worked for Economy Linen Company, and as a Foster Parent for Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit.

Celia was baptized as a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in June 6th 1964.

Celia was a world traveler having travelled to Canada, Hawaii, The Bahamas, Alaska, Italy, Livorno, Naples, Venice, Croatia, Spain, France, and Aruba. She has also travelled to almost every other state in this country.

She enjoyed the many family reunions she attended in both Detroit and Chicago with family members and friends.

When she turned 90 years old in 2010 she was honored with great fanfare at the DeCarlos Banquet Facility in Warren, MI. Family and friends from all over were in attendance to help celebrate.

Celia celebrated her 100th year in grand style at the Red Lobster Restaurant in Minnesota with much fancy and frills. She was thrilled to no end, thanks to niece Mallory.

Celia’s 100 years of life was full of excitement and many joys in spite of some sorrows. She departed this life at 9:00am on December 30th, 2020 as Beaumont Hospital Dearborn, MI.

Her husband Alonzo of 56 years, preceded her in death as well as her brother David. Sons Will, Walter Leon and Halbert, and daughter Susan. Grandchildren Ricky, Michelle, Calvin, Marlon (Tony), Halbert, and Tyrone. Great grandchildren Ricky and Krystal, and great great grandchild Teyandra.

Celia leaves to cherish and remember her forever, Daughters Lenetta Alexander of Dolton, IL. Son Frederick Rogers of Clinton Township. Daughter Deborah (Larry) of Port Saint Lucie, FL. Daughter-in-law Mildred Rogers of Port Huron, MI. Her sister Burnette Thomas of Chicago, IL. One hundred thirty one grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
