Annie Robinson Obituary

Annie Mae Robinson was born on December 4, 1959, in Aubrey, Arkansas to the union of Louella Hamilton and John Robinson. In 1961 Annie moved to Detroit, Michigan with her paternal aunt, Maria Robinson Vassar, uncle George Louis Vassar and their daughter Joyce Marie.

She became a member of the church they attended, Grace Temple Church of God in Christ, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. This early introduction became the foundation of Ann’s strong faith and belief in God. Her love for family was the motivation for her to return to her mother’s home after the birth of the first of her sisters which resulted in a lifelong bond and commitment to her entire family. She began working during school on a special project introducing students to computers. Ann graduated from Finney High School in 1977 and began working in the newly built Detroit Renaissance Center. In August of 1978 after a relationship with Matthew Pryor Jr., Ann gave birth to her only child, Antoine, and the two became a lifelong family partnership. To provide for her son, in 1979, Ann began a career with the State of Michigan’s Department of Mental Health. In 1984, she joined the church began by her uncle George Vassar, Bible Believing Church of God in Christ. Soon, under the tutelage of her Aunt Maria, Ann began teaching children’s Sunday school, sang in the choir, and learned the practice of intercessory prayer. Believing in the importance of education, Annie worked hard to send her son to private school, inspiring him to graduate from high school and enroll in college upon graduation. Annie worked hard in various fields to achieve a better life for herself and Antoine, and soon she became a homeowner. Working lots of overtime, Ann also supplemented her income by working as a health care provider and property manager, helping those less fortunate avoid homelessness. She was promoted to a position with the State’s Unemployment Insurance Agency where she worked until she retired. Ann loved planting flowers, collecting antiques, jewelry and attending gatherings with family and friends. A devoted friend known for her compassion for others, her bright smile and great sense of humor, her presence often improved the mood wherever she went. Playful and prayerful, Ann enjoyed making people laugh and inspired everyone she knew to make the best of their lives. In the early morning of March 12, 2024, God called his servant home to rest and reward where she is now continuing the work she began serving her community and others while telling of the greatness of the Savior and the power of prayer.

Annie was preceded in death by both parents and two beloved brothers, Arthur Hamilton and Randy Robinson. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her son Antoine Robinson (Kristi), 3 grandsons, Antoine Robinson Jr., Ashton Matthew Robinson, and Amir Dwayne Harris and one bonus granddaughter, Ciera Kaprice Love. She will be dearly missed by her siblings, John Robinson Jr., Leroy Robinson (Valerie), George Lee Robinson (Freddie), Matthew James Hamilton, Joanne Denise Hamilton, Fannie Denise Hamilton and an enormous host of relatives and friends.
